We even had a few new faces which is always so exciting. We are so pleased you came along for the journey. On to this months challenge. Valerie from Bastelmania designed again  for  us this month . Thank you so much dear Valerie for being part of this journey -  Our new theme :

Living Beings

Valerie wrote:
I have decided to concentrate my efforts for 'living beings' this month on the work of Beatrix Potter, whose magical work was an important part of my childhood. I still have the complete set of Peter Rabbit books, and they are one of the things which I will never part with. She was a very talented painter and illustrator, whose work hangs in the Tate Gallery in London, and painted all her creatures with great love and respect. I am sure many of you will have seen the wonderful film of her life with Rennee Zellweger, 'Miss Potter'. If you are interested you can read more about her life here (English) or here (German).

I want to try to show some of the living beings she created this month, and try to paint or draw some of my own. Your creativity has no limits, you can interpret the theme as you want, with art journaling about any things that live or have lived – unleash your creativity and show us what you can do!

For my piece I painted an A3 page with water colours, and sprinkled on a bit of the wonderful bistre powders sent to me by a friend, and this gave a great grungy look. I fussy cut my characters and put them in scene, together with a photo of Beatrix Potter, watching over her creations. I had great fun making this, and hope you will have fun creating your pages and sharing your living beings with us.

08/2014 ***FRIDA KAHLO***

Hello everyone, we have had some more NEW faces last month (which we LOVE) and have really enjoyed looking at your pages & talent. So many FLOWER-POWER-ART --- awesome!
A big Thank you to all the passengers of Art Journal Journey Monthly Challenges !
Take a gander at all the enchanting creations from July HERE !

Now for this month  lovely Valerie from Bastelmania is our wonderful DT hostess and she even picked the theme -  and wants us to play along with the popular icon among artists

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ FRIDA KAHLO ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

She made  this wonderful and inspiring example for us!
And Valerie wrote this little introduction:

Frida Kahlo de Rivera, was born Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón on July 6, 1907 and died on
July 13, 1954. She was a painter who is best known for her very moving self-portraits, which graphically depict her pain, suffering and joy.Kahlo's life began and ended in Mexico City, in her home known as the Blue House. Her work has been celebrated in Mexico as emblematic of national tradition and by feminists for its uncompromising depiction of the female experience and form.Mexican and Amerindian cultural tradition are important in her work, which has been sometimes characterized as naive or folk art. Her work has also been described as surrealist, although Frida said of herself, 'I do not paint dreams or nightmares,
I paint my own reality'.

She had a volatile marriage with the famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera. She suffered lifelong health problems, many caused by a traffic accident she survived as a teenager. Recovering from her injuries isolated her from other people, and this isolation influenced her works, many of which are self-portraits of one sort or another. She suggested, "I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best." She also stated, "I was born a bitch. I was born a painter."
She contracted polio at age six, which left her right leg thinner than the left; she disguised this later in life by wearing long, colorful skirts.

On September 17, 1925, she was riding in a bus that collided with a trolley car. She suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident, including a broken spinal column, a broken collarbone, broken ribs, a broken pelvis, eleven fractures in her right leg, a crushed and dislocated right foot, and a dislocated shoulder. Also, an iron handrail pierced her abdomen and her womb.
The accident left her in a great deal of pain, and she spent three months recovering in a full body cast. Although she recovered from her injuries and eventually regained her ability to walk, she had relapses of extreme pain for the remainder of her life. The pain was intense and often left her confined to a hospital or bedridden for months at a time. She had as many as 35 operations as a result of the accident, mainly on her back, her right leg, and her right foot. The medical complications and permanent damage also prevented her from having a child; though she conceived three times, all of her pregnancies had to be terminated.
Her injuries and the pain of not being able to have a child is shown in many of her wonderful paintings.

For my piece today I have superimposed her painting of 'The broken column' over a postcard of Mexican 'Dia de Los muertos' folk-art. I then added colours with oil-pastels and gel-pens. I used a white highlighter to doodle flowers and the outline, and added one of her quotes. I chose this painting to start with as it epitomises for me how she saw herself, and how her suffering shaped her art, against a background of the Mexico she loved. One of my fave and much read books is her 'Painted Diary',  which I would warmly recommend to all who have not read it.

 hugs from Valerie

We have put together some ♥♥♥FRIDA♥♥♥INSPIRATION for you  -  look HERE to get your creative juices flowing.
Have fun and we really hope to see so many enthusiastic artists with their Art Journal entries here as in July! Please have consideration and notice that greeting cards or ATCS, tags  and such rather smaller artwork will not be  accepted for our event and we have to delite the links - only larger artwork in an Art Journal or on Canvas or loose pages -
larger than DIN A 6 (105x145mm=4,1 x 5,8 inches) will be accepted.

Hallo Art Journaler !

Below you find  our new August - Gallery - Button for this month's event - so that you simply can just click here in the course of August to see all entries at one glance.

05/ 2014 *** Circles / KREISE***

Thank you so much for all the amazing entries to our last theme! Fabulous! You can have a look at all the great interpretations in one place - just klick here:

This month we have a cool new theme - Jeannette picked out "CIRCLES" for us and made below great page  to inspire and get our creative juices flowing. If you don't know Jeannette's blog visit her - she describes her  artistic journey in a few lines:
Jeannette wrote:
"Several years ago I discovered  Art-Journaling for me - inspired by some Artist Trading Card Crafters in an internet-forum. In the meantime I experimented with many techniques and styles and found my own personal style by now.
I enjoy working intuitively - like it colorful and bright and sometimes I am into mystical climes on my pages. Next to the Art Journaling I paint Mixed Media Canvases - I like to use many mediums as acrylic paints , inks, sprays, oilpastels and  recently watercolors as well. I love to try out new things and like to  take new ideas and inspiration from other artists."

*04/2014***MOMENTS OF HAPPINESS *****************GLÜCKSMOMENTE*********************

selected and prepaired our theme for this month - below wonderful  example she created especially for us and shares her authentic reflections with us as well . She wrote:
 "So many of us are searching for the great happiness and we often ignore the small moments of happiness in life and our daily routine. But just these small moments of joy tremendously enrich our day-to-day life. We only have to be aware of these moments. And if we achieve this then we can remember these moments of happiness.  With every memory we can come closer to blissful happiness. In which moments of your life are or were you happy? Moments of happiness can be: to love and be loved, family, friends, health, security, inner harmony, to pass a test, to help people (others), a sunny day after many rainy days, a good meal, to experience nature;
Capture this moments!"
Have fun with the theme and show us your personal
Happiness is already there. It is in us.
We only have forgotten it and we
simply must remember again.

LonettA   vom Blog   CreA(R)Tives
lediglich wieder daran erinnern."
